Round 5 saw the undefeated men's seniors team return to the picturesque lower playing fields to take on Sunbury United. The big fella upstairs tuned the temperature to a perfect 20deg & doused the ground in sunshine. The stage was now set…

The only change to the starting line up saw Mrs Adrian Busso (maiden name being maiorana) making way for Onur 'Gurkan Ozkan' Karauzum for his first start after tweaking his groin earlier this preseason attempting a round house kick.

La Trobe got off to a decent start albeit at a much slower pace compared to last weeks sprint with some good possession & ball movement. David 'our English run around the keeper friend' Greening found himself on the end of some half chances and did well to get a couple of shots off. The La Trobe backline was also doing their job with Peter 'can't think of a nickname for him just yet' Natsis marshalling the troops in the back. The game by this point needed something and something it received when a passage of play started by David 'speedy gonzales' G putting the ball in to space where Hubert 'Luxemburg national team captain' Schlink then ran with it like the wind & managed to put a picture perfect cross to the back post where Nick 'disco' Vissaris happened to be busting jig & while jumping and fist pumping had the ball hit his head and fall in the back of the net, much to his amazement. He thought the rest of the team wanted to join him in a dance when they rushed to him to celebrate…that kid….after the opening goal there were a few half chances for each team but no further addition to the score sheet. At the half it was La trobe up by 1 -0.

The second half started much like the first from memory, some nice flowing football played by La trobe. One would have thought sunbury would come out firing but as we will learn down the track, they saved it for the end. At times in the half, the conversation with australia's greatest export to the Italian Serie C, AD was more interesting than the game (don't let the coach hear me say that). I started questioning whether David 'our English run around the keeper friend' Greening was saving himself or not feeling well as he wasn't seeing all that much of the ball. Rumor has it he ducked in to the clubrooms to catch a glimpse of Premier league Darts & in particular his idol Phil Taylor hit a 180000000000000000000000000. I was wrong as he sprung up to find himself on the end of yet another lovely through ball to have an open shot at the goal with the keeper to beat (pardon the pun), David seems to think that when I say that it means he has to 'run around the keeper' before he can have a strike on goal. I found myself eating my words as he did exactly that & took his season tally to 4/6 around the keeper. From this point on the game 'seemed' like it was La trobes to lose with the team looking comfortable. Changes were made to introduce some fresh legs & things somehow went downhill from there. I won't go in to it but the lads ended up losing 3-2 blah bah blah whatever. It hurts just thinking about it so I won't go in to detail. What looked like the soon to be top side in the league in the 80th minute mark turned in to the average mid table team in a 10min period. Heads up and bring on next week.

Best on ground - Mr Harry Efe for yet again producing some of the best bbq chicken fillets I have had which quickly took away the bitter taste of the defeat.....
