Round 11 took the team to the picturesque playing fields of arch nemesis Melbourne Uni at lovely Parkville. One though could've been mistaken that we were in Werribee as this particular stench saturated the air. Upon further investigation it was then realized that Visy Park home of the Blues was a stone throw away & that the smell was transmitted from there.
There were a few changes to the team for this all important encounter with Chris 'wet behind the ears George Martin' Oghanna making was for another young punk in Matthew 'the mop' Oghanna. Chris was a tad upset at been given a spell in the magoo's as he thought his new haircut & black boots were enough to warrant a possible start after last weeks cameo appearance. What upset him a tad further was the hair do of the incoming Matthew 'the mop' Oghanna. Not up to scratch according to Chris....Peter 'Elle macphearson' Natsis was absent due to photo shoot for the new sports illustrated swimsuit edition. He would be sorely missed. James 'tap tap' Boston was out with a hammy yet his physio who has 10 uni degrees said it would be ok for him to play in the magoo's? The Senior coaching staff are still scratching their heads on that one. Arturo 'nachos' jose & Matt 'dicko' Dickson made up the other 2 spots in the squad.
The game kicked off with Melb uni inviting La Trobe to attack with the forwards sitting off and allowing Adrian 'formerly busso' Maiorana a lot of the ball. There was quite a bit of possession in the La trobe backline with the ball constantly being switched between Lil David 'pogo stick' G & Stefan 'John Rambo' Busso. Cuong 'skins' Pham was kept busy on the right wing by some foreign full fee paying punk Melb Uni recruited however money can't buy you the 345 games Cuong should've played in his career & this guy was kept on a leash...at times. Nothing much was happening going forward with Luca 'how's my hair' Lavalle able to find time to pack for his upcoming trip overseas while David 'our English run around the keeper friend' greening able to take in an episode of Premier league Darts on his portable TV. Once Melb Uni started to find their feet Nick 'shaggy' Hendry was called in to action and was the only shinning light in the La trobe squad denying Melb Uni on a couple of occasions with some brilliant pieces of keeping. Highlight of the first half was Stefan 'John Rambo' Busso's challenge on his opponent, the bloke flew in scene's reminiscent of busso's recent worldwide hit Rambo 4....0-0 it went in to the half & the coaching staff were happy with the defensive display from the lads.
The second half started relatively slow however soon enough it was evident that La trobe were going to have a battle on their hands with Melb Uni taking the game to them. The defensive pressure they were under was quite intense with Silvio 'formerly Colaluca' Busso & Daniel 'lock up your daughters' seiny constantly under the pump. It seems as though any time the lads tried progressing forward they kept hitting road blocks in the form of the tall timber which made up the Melb Uni backline. The pressure finally took it's toll on the lads when the big dufus up front for Melb proved that he had half a brain and had a strike near post bounce over an unlucky 'nick 'shaggy' Hendry and end up in the back of the net. Even though the lads were down by 1 it looked like they would find it hard to peg that goal back as they didn't really show much. Soon after the game was beyond La trobes reach as a couple of defensive errors saw Melb through on goal and 2-0 it was. A couple of the lads 'stepped' up to the challenge....or tried to in the case of Lil David 'pogo stick' G however without a ladder available, he found it difficult to get his message through to the Melb Uni Dufus giving him some lip. I'm going to round off this match report there as I'm not really motivated in writing this after what was a poor performance. 11 down 11 to go & the lads need to step it up a notch.
Best on Ground – The brunette I walked past post match who was running the track. It was a 'TIGHT' package which made the journey down Parkville way not a complete waste.
