La Trobe Uni’s reserves team recorded their fifth win of the season, after beating Banyule 2-0.

Starting off strong with the wind in their backs, Banyule put a lot of pressure on La Trobe in beginning of the first half. Uni had lots of trouble getting the ball out of their on half, but looked dangerous when they did – especially on the set pieces.

It was on a corner half way through the first half when Marco once again showed his killer instinct in the box, meeting the low cross from Gabs with a controlled shot in the far corner. On the sidelines coach Gonis presented us with a satisfied grin, finally watching one of the set peices being executed the correct way, with the wanted result.

Shortly after, Banyule got reduced to 10 men after the referee caught one of their players running into Mickey P off the ball.

Celebrations after Martin's 30-yard strike This gave La Trobe the opportunity to push forward, and start to control the game. Especially in the second half, leaving Anthony G. behind freezing in the goals, Uni continued to pressure Banyule, but were not able to capitalise on their opportunities, until Martin drilled a 30-yard free kick in the far top corner, making it 2-0. The strike is said to be hard to beat as the goal of the year, if you are to believe the rumours after the game.

Having won five out of six games, the Reserves team now head off to Geelong to play Corio.
